Figural Covered Ceramic Dish. Brown; red; pink; blue; green; tan; gold leaf; cream.. Ceramic. The cover of this dish is a young boy in a sailors suit and hat sitting in the top of a large egg. His sail is a blanket that he holds one end of in his hand, the other end is grasped between his feet. His other hand holds the rudder. The bottom half of the egg forms the bowl which is decorated with a spray of applied gilded roses. The eggs rides blue waves that rest on an oval base. The underside is marked with an impressed crown that contain the letters HC. The letter H is drawn in the clay as are the initals Q J S or F. The number 5 is painted below the glaze.
