SORRY SOLD: An extremely rare dated 1595 Bellarmine jug with 3 medallions; all dated 1595 and all bearing an interesting heraldic coat of arms with a soldier holding a lance atop. Beautiful “tiger†glaze throughout and a very nice fat squat form. The jug was cracked during firing (a waster) and has a sliver chip to side of handle and a small hole in the bottom, see photos.
Despite this, it is a great rarity, a stunning piece of 16th century stoneware, very sound and displays very well. About 8†tall.
