Rookwood Pottery, Tall Looped Handled Grecian Blue Vase~~
Price: $325.00
For Sale I have a Unique Shaped Vase made by The Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinatti, Ohio. The item is a Footed Vase and its is a nice size. The vase stands 7 1/2" tall and is 3 1/8" at its widest point at the Shoulder. The Vase depicts a Round Footed Tapered Grecian Urn Vase with Tall Exaggerated Looped Handles. These handles rise up from the top lip and loop over to the Shoulder. The Vase has a very lovely Matte Robins Egg Blue background glaze with very nice mottling. The Mottling is deeper at the top and it bleeds ever so softly to the bottom. The piece is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The Piece is signed with Rookwood's Impressed Reverse "RP" and Sunburst Logo along with the Roman Numerals "XXXVII" for the year of manufacture, 1937. There is also the mold number "6005F" impressed under the date. I believe the suffix "-F" mark was Rookwood's way of identifying the size and further research confirms this. Shape numbers, and size letters were impressed below the Roman numeral date marking on Rookwood Pottery pieces. The shape number refers to the outline, or shape of the item. A letter or twin letters frequently followed the shape number. The single or twin letters were used to indicate the size of the shape. Size lettering ranged from A to F, with A being the largest size of the shape, and F the smallest. Twin letters indicated a size of the shape that fell between two other sizes. Not all items were marked with a size letter, indicating only one size for the shape was made. Thus, the letter C following the Mold or Shape number above meant it wasn't the largest or the smallest. It would have been considered a medium size. In my 35+ years as a dealer this is the first time I have ever had this Shape. This will make a wonderful addition to any Matte Art Pottery Collection and would look just great on that Stickley, Mission, Arts and Crafts Style Bookcase. It is simply amazing that these handles have survived 73 years without even a flea nick. Truly an excellent example in both form and color. I'm sure the lucky buyer will be delighted with their purchase.
