Fulper, Prang, Coffee Pot, Cats Eye Flambe' Glaze, Rare~~
Price: $395.00
For Sale is a extremely Rare piece of Prang Pottery made by the Fulper Art Pottery Company of Flemington, NJ. The Shape is a Utilitarian Shape in that of a Small Coffee Pot with lid. The Coffee Pot stands 5 1/4" Tall and is 5 1/2" in diameter. The Coffee Pot is done in the very sought after "Cats Eye Flambé Glaze". It displays a wonderful mocha brown background glaze that is accented with an almost mirrored black with blue Highlights drip glaze that runs from the top opening and down its sides. The drippy glaze is just outstanding. The pitcher itself is in excellent condition as there are no issues to report. I had the lid professionally restored as it had a fine hairline and a small nick along the rolled edge. This restoration cannot be see with the naked eye. There is a factory chip on the male portion of the lid that extends down into the Coffee Pot. It is Glaze over and was made this way. To find this piece is a feat in itself. To find it with the lid is even a bigger feat. Most of these found do not have their lids. The lid sits loosely and if you don't hold it down with the other hand, the cap will simply fall out of the hole. The piece is signed on the bottom with the PRANG Ink stamp Signature inside a rectangle. Fulper began making Pottery for the Prang Company of New York in 1913. This signature was used for 3 years, from 1913-1916. After 1916 the pieces made for Prang simply bore the "FULPER" in Capital Block Lettering Trademark Signature. From 1913 through 1929, the Prang Company sold Fulper Art ware shapes for use as still-life models for students to sketch or draw. Subsequently there is not a lot of Prang Pottery on the open market. This is a wonderful piece of Art Pottery made by Fulper. It is in a rather hard to find form. It is known as shape number TP65 in the Fulper Catalogue Line. In all my years as a collector/dealer I have only seen 1 other Teapot and was missing its lid. This would look great in any mission, Arts & Crafts style decor home. I sure the lucky buyer will be delighted with their purchase is this piece is considered somewhat rare!
