Along with the Herter Bros., and Belter, Alexander Roux was one of the six New York master cabinetmakers of the mid 19th Century.
This early and very rare mahogany console table is signed: "from Alexander Roux 478 B-bay, NY", dating this to have been made between 1838 - 1848.
Shell carved serpentine shape, handsomely decorated with barley twist edge, supported by leaf and scroll carved cabriolet front legs, turned back legs, joined together by similar leaf and scroll carved cross stretchers,back legs joined by a single turned stretcher.
