Historical Context: This coin was minted in HUNGARY during the 1500’s. These are the first coins of Hungary to portray the famous Madonna and Christ Child which became a signiture type for Hungary. Although constantly at war with Turkey, Hungary was prosperous and maintained good silver coinage throughout. The motif reflects Hungary’s strong ties with the Christian church. The obverse (front) of this coin is MADONNA and the CHRIST CHILD. The reverse is a COAT of ARMS. Attribution: Silver Denier, 1557 AD, Europe: This coin is in "Very Fine plus" condition and has good detail (much better than photos shows). The strike is strong on both sides. This coin has excellent coloring, nice even toning. This coin is a SILVER Denier measuring about 15mm diameter (about the diameter of a US dime but ½ as thick).
