Rare antique 15th – 16th century Islamic war axe, Mameluke or Turkish Ottoman. This ax made of hand forged steel, with its distinctively large crescent-shaped blade, back-head with shaped square hammer, is typical of those carried by the Mamluks of Egypt and Syria and the Ottomans Turks in the late fifteenth to early sixteenth century.
