An exceptional quality English horseman’s basket hilted broad sword dating circa 1800 -1820 in outstanding condition!
Beautiful, large forged steel basket that is brightly cut and polished. Still retains original sharkskin grip wrap with its twisted wire. Its massive broad sword blade measures wide and long! Three fullers each side! Engraved in central fuller “DONALD CURRIE LONDON WARRANTED” both sides!
Its original leather scabbard (fair condition with several age cracks) with large steel mounts accompanies the sword. It has been mounted on a wood plaque to conserve it, but can easily be removed and placed on the sword’s blade for display.
Basket hilts of this quality are rarely seen and rarely offered for sale
