A very rare pair of antique 17th century Chainmail gloves Mitten Gauntlets of Polish Hussar Karacena Armor from the time of the battle of Vienna. Formed of extremely well hand forged interlocking riveted iron rings bordered by leather straps. The thumb guards, formed of karacena type iron scale plates, riveted to the leather liner.
The rounded scale plates are of the same shape as can be seen on the 17th century Polish hussar Karacena type szyszaks and armours. Also, some of the examples of Polish karacena armour were constructed of scale plates and Chainmail. Please see the pictures attached to the listing.
CONDITION: Showing age and usage, leather cracked, iron rings are rusty, absence of the fastened lather belt and the clasp on the one of the mittens, signs of the restitching the Chainmail over the time to the leather straps. There is a possibility that the front of the mittens originally would have been sewn to the back of the leather mittens.
