Exceptional gold on silver serving spoon with enamel and repousse mask decoration. American, 19th century, Dominick & Haff in the Renaissance 1894 pattern.Measures just under 8inches long and weighs 2.5oz.Richly gilded silver (gilding for acidity of fruit). Large scalloped bowl, arching handle, widening twoards the fan shaped end. Scrolling foliage surrounds a wonderful mask head - possibly taken from Ancient Greece mythology. A larger version of the bearded mask is on the back of the spoon, behind the bowl. The foliage is enriched with blue-green, yellow and green enameling.
