Heavy antique copper kettle or cauldron for boiling water. Made and used 19th century. Measures 10 1/2 inches high. Round shape with curved spout opening like a bird''s mouth. The slightly domed round lid fits tightly and has a beautiful acorn finial. Heavy, very solid cylindrical handle with curved sides ending in large, solid snake-head attachments with original old nails. The lid, the front of the pot, just above the spout and the underneath of the kettle are all marked with an engraved oval mark - see ''photos. Clearly the makers took great pride in the quality of their production. Condition is generally good with a few dings which are quite natural in a piece of this age. No restoration.
