Jean Schlumberger Jeweled Gold Compact Circa. 1950 American This splendid gold compact by the renowned jewelry designer Jean Schlumberger (1907 - 1987) takes the form of a zinnia. The top is embellished with blue, red and yellow natural sapphires. All sapphires tested with refractive index liquid. The mirror and screen are intact. The interior is marked, flanking the hinge, SCHLUMBERGER and 18KT Gold tested with 18K acid. Schlumberger designed for Elsa Schiaparelli. His exotic and whimsical designs caught the eye of fashionable women, including Elizabeth Taylor, Greta Garbo, The Dutchess of Windsor, Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. On February 20, 1956, Tiffany & Co. invited him to join the Company. This compact is found on P.68 of "The Jewels of Jean Schlumberger" Henry N. Abrams, Inc. 2001 France. The compact measures 2 3/4 inches in diameter and 1 3/4 inches high. 154.7 gr. 99.5 dwt. In excellent condition
