y-smoothe, flexible and sturdy chain. Since the links face all directions around the tube, they catch and play with the light in an understated display of the gold''s brilliance. We had the simple clasp added to the chain in order to facilitate putting it on. The side loops were already there, so the chain''s integrity was not compromised in any way. The slide in repousse gold in Rococo foliate form with exquisite detail. Can be brought up to sit at the nape of the neck, or lower down, closer to the rest of the enhancements. The chain terminates in the original watch fob, a cuffed hand. According to the book, Understanding Jewellery by Bennett and Mascetti (page 130), Gold hand clasps were popular between 1830-1840. This is not a true clasp as it does not open, but it is very beautifully done with super detail and extraordinarilly, the part directly above the cuff is linked to a repousse foliate section (matching the slide in theme), via very finely made hinges. This results in greater movement. The hand is joined to a series of bars, links and loops, presumably for hanging more enhancers. The whole terminates in a triple chain with tassles. The ''housing'' of the tassles in two-coloured gold, with raised foliate decoration and a line of black enamel (with a minute fleck missing as seen under a magnifying glass). A very full fringe of bead-tipped tassles. I believe the tassles may be a later addition. There are a number of eagle-head hallmarks, as can be clearly seen in the ''photos. Good condition.
