Late 19th century lava cameo bracelet. Lava cameos were made from the lava of volcanic eruptions in the Italian region (Vesuvius, Etna) . They were popular tourist souvenirs in Victorian times, and are now very collectable. This one has 9 oval medallions, each with a detailed classical Roman head. Green/grey and terracotta colours, natural lava. The mounts are a low grade silver. Bracelet is 19cm (7.1/2 inches) long. Cameos are 2 cm by 1.5 cm (3/4 inch by 5/8 inch). Very good original condition.
