This lovely ring has faults, but it is a superb stone with lovely colour. I have two of these rings, both with faulted mounts - several other items from the same family also had similar amethysts, so it would appear that a 19th century necklace was broken up and re-purposed as rings, brooches etc. It was common practise to remodel jewellery into other items - possibly the original necklace was damaged and so was dismantled.
This ring is mounted in 9ct gold, and has split design shoulders and a pretty ball and loop mount around the stone - it's this ornate mount that is damaged. The stone is still held tightly, and is in no danger of falling out. Photos show the loss of one of the crowned loops. Ring face measures 16 mm by 13 mm. Ring fitting is UK size L (USA size 5.1/2) with an internal diameter of 16.10 mm. Stone is in excellent condition.
