Fifty-eight striated beads comprise this necklace. Each bead has a bulbous shape with a wide middle that narrows at the top and bottom. They become progressively larger towards the end of the strand. The effect is of geometric unity, combined with texture, creating a sense of continuous movement. Such 'energy' is produced not only by design, but also by the gold itself. This necklace most probably adorned the neck of a wealthy lady, perhaps given as part of a large dowry. Its elegance is as impressive today as it was when first made so long ago. - (FJ.6448a)
