Unusual brooch - a large amethyst mounted in a crenulated 18ct yellow gold setting. Pin at rear curves to accommodate facets of the stone, so you couldn't have this brooch on thick fabric. I would think that this has been made from a necklace - I have several other pieces (rings etc) with the same mount from the same family, so probably a damaged necklace was dismantled and made into other items. Brooch measure 1.7 cm by 2.2 cm. Excellent condition. Late 19th to early 20th century.
