Circa. 1720 -1740 British Giardinetto ring means literally a small garden ring. A type of finger ring of which the bezel is made in an openwork floral design and set with small gemstones of various colors. The stones are usually, but not invariably, arranged to form a bouquet of flowers, or a basket , or a vase holding flowers. Such rings were made in Italy in the late 17th and the 18th centuries. Also in England, where they were popular from the end of the 17th century until the end of the 18th. Those from the later period have open back settings. This ring has a closed (foil back) setting. The face of the ring measures 7/8 inch high and 3/4 inch wide. Silver back and 15K yellow gold top. Gold tested with 15K acid. Rubies and emeralds tested with refractive index liquid.
