Kauri gum (New Zealand amber) necklace - large raw chunky pieces graduated with small pieces between each larger piece. This would have been a home-made necklace from gum collected. The pieces are all disparate with very irregular shapes and rough and smooth bits. Large necklace, and quite long. Sizes of larger pieces in centre are approx.47 mm by 15 mm and 27 mm by 12mm, graduating down to about 8 mm diameter at the rear of the neck. No clasp, continuous loop style. Total length of necklace is 725 mm. It is strung on nylon thread. (Kauri gum is the fossilized resin of the kauri tree, and is many thousands of years old. It was dug up from the ground mostly in the 19th century, and mainly in the north of the North Island of New Zealand).
