Beautiful antique griffin brooch with an old cut diamond in its mouth. It has a ring at the bottom where one could attach a hanging piece of jewelry if desired. This griffin is in mint condition and is marked in an oval FIX. Fix is a French term used for describing jewelry that has been heavily gold applied or plated to look like solid gold. Fix pieces look so much like gold that the French mark their gold applied pieces with the mark FIX. This was done to identify the pieces as not being solid gold to prevent anyone from being deceived. High quality FIX pieces look like solid gold. This griffin is a classic example. It measures 1-3/4 inches wide, 1-5/8 inches high. Weight 5.3 grams. Mint condition.
