Antique Victorian carbuncle garnet earrings. Made 19th century. Measure1 3/8 inches (approx 33mm) long, excluding the loops. Weigh 9.5 grams. Old, Victorian garents in a deep wine colour that glints and flashes as the light catches the stones. A double flower form with a cabochon carbuncle in the center of each and smaller, faceted stones forming the border. Suspended from a small garnet by a pair of loops, so that the earrings swing with every movement of the wearer. Hang from simple loops are convenient to insert through the ears and comfortable for wearing. The earrings have closed backs, indicating that they are really early. The gold is unmarked, but low carat (approx 9 carat), with the loops testing for 12 ct. gold. Very good condition.
