Antique Victorian / Edwardian Art Nouveau festoon necklace. 18k gold, diamond, pink sapphire and natural pearl. Made circa 1895-1910, France. Measures 14 3/4 inches long; weighs 13.2 grams. Length of sapphire is approx 1/4inch (8mm). Classic Art Nouveau design with a central, openwork jewel that falls somewhat below the throat. Joined by swags of flowers and chains to a bow on either side, each suspending a natural pearl and followed by identical, but smaller swags leading to a flower, which in turn connects to the rest of the gold chain. The central, main section of the necklace with beautifully modelled flowers and foliage surrounding a large, pink sapphire. The top has a golden bow with a diamond as it''s knot. The bottom suspends a lovely pearl. Hallmarks on the back of the central bow, include the eagle head, used in Paris, France during the 19th century. I tested the gold to confirm it is 18k.
