Antique Georgian / early VIctorian necklace. 18carat gold and amethyst. Made circa 1830. Measures 14 3/4 inches long. Weighs 35.5 grams. Classic necklace. A series of faceted amethysts, foil backed to enhance colour and intensity, typical of the Georgian era. Colett set with zig-zag teeth edges. Each stone linked to the next by a few loops, allowing flexibility and movement. Deep golden colour tests for at least 18carat gold. Absolutely stunning when worn. Tongue of clasp is hallmarked - 2 oval marks somewhat worn and a rectangle with ET initials (probably for the maker). Good condition.
