Antique Georgian / very early Victorian eye brooch. 15K yellow gold and enamel, handpainted miniature portrait of an eye. Made in England circa 1800 - 1840. Measures 7/8 inches in length. Weighs 4 grams. Handpainted miniature eye. Fine detail to the brown iris. Lovely, tantalising little lock of hair seen on one side and the slightest hint of the nose on the other. Eye jewellery was popular as gifts between lovers during the Georgian era. Set in an oval gold mount with ridged border and a black-enamelled middle ring. Gold tests for 15carats. No hallmarks.
