Good condition. Good antique Mughal / Indian jewellery combines the wonders of ages gone by with amazing design and delicacy executed by outstanding craftsmen and is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain as it grows in appreciation throughout the world. In her book on Indian earrings, page 231, Waltraud Ganguly explains that the design is a snake, symbol of eternity (with it''s tail in it''s mouth). These earrings, called Ananthamudichu are ''practically extinct'' today. ''They need only one hinge; the screw-head is a part of the geometrical decoration and is not detectable as such when closed.'' She also tells us that the Victoria and Albert Museum, London owns a pair of Ananthamudichu, donated in 1851 to the exhibition of that year.
