Sandalwood Southern India jewel box from Mysore c1855. This jewel box was hand carved from solid sandalwood by a master carver in Southern India and used as a jewelry box. Measures 11 inches wide by 4 inches deep by 4 inches high. This box is profusely carved with a variety of foliate designs interspersed with mythic beasts, people and animals being hunted by archers, around a center temple scene. Excellent original patina and condition with original brass hardware and claw feet. There is one small old line crack on the top board which is common with India boxes from this period.
