Beautiful antique Art Nouveau 14k gold Lorgnette. The lorgnette is in mint condition. Lorgnettes were very popular with wealthy individuals who could afford them in the 19th century. They were usually worn by elegant ladies on a gold chain around their necks. The handle has a button, when you push down with your thumb nail the lorgnette springs open. These were held over one's nose to use like a magnifying glass or reading glasses to see more clearly . These were very fashionable during the Art Nouveau era. This one has a beautiful design and is in mint condition. It measures 3-5/8 inches from top to bottom when closed. Widest width when closed 1-5/8 inches. When opened, the glass portion measures 3-7/8 inches wide. The lorgnette handle measures 1-7/8 inches long. Weight 24.4 grams. Guaranteed to please the most particular collector or connoisseur.
