Antique silver Art Nouveau chatelaine coin or key purse. Made during the Art Nouveau, late Victorian era - circa 1880 - 1910. Measurements: 2 1/2 inches accross widest part of frame. Weighs 23.1 grams. Made if silver knitted chain mail - flexible and soft while sturdy and secure. The bottom has a number of suspended silver beads, some missing. The frame is fabulous: an elongated series of sensuous curves with raised oak-leaf foliage on either side and a bird with a huge wingspan forming the top. The bird, with open mouth prepares to swoop down and land. The exact same scenario is depicted on the reverse, but is partially hidden due to a loop from which the purse could be hung (no pockets in your dress). A simple double globed clasp opens and closes the purse securely. Hallmarks on the clasp - not entirely legibile, but certainly include a bird/duck in a lozenge. Besides the couple of missing beads on the bottom, there is no damage.Normally, some of the chain has unravelled or at least become seperated from the frame, but in this case, all parts are intact, as can be seen in the ''photos. Nothing stretched, split or un-attached. Status: For Sale Reference#: 4017 Condition: good Year: 1899 Title: ANTIQUE NOUVEAU SILVER COIN KEY PURSE FAB BIRD FRAME
