A Very Rare British Woolwork Picture -woolie- of a Fleet of Fourteen Different Ships, Signed by George McCarthy , Circa 1865-80. Worked predominantly in shades of blue and cream-colored yarns, with silk and metallic thread embellishments. Each ship with banner inscribed in ink below, the maker''s photograph between the embroidered signature "BY GEORGE MC CARTHY." In original Victorian gilt frame with stamped gilt metal floral mounts at each corner. Frame size 21 ¼ x 37 ½ inches.
