Circa 1830 Circa 1830 Silkwork Sampler by Elleanor Corps. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral strawberry border. Colours dark green, cream, dark blue, light blue, copper, gold and green. Verse reads ''Praise to thee, thou great Creator.> Praise be thine from every tongue.> Join . My soul, with evry creature.> Join the universal song.''. Signed and dated ''Elleanor Corps her Work in the 10th year of her Age 18..'' (the last digits of the date unstitched). A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a lady and gentleman in the garden, dogs, birds, flowers, fruit baskets, crowns, Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk and flowering trees. Good. A few holes along the bottom edge and in the top left corner. Slight staining to the top half. No stitch losses. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 18.5ins by 12.25ins wide
