William IV, dated 1835 Large 1835 Sampler by Jane Ingham. Framed in an old, burr maple frame with glass. Stitched to card with paper backing. The sampler is worked in wool and silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours red, cream, blue, light brown, white, black, light green, orange, olive green and pink. Verse reads ''Jesus stands with open arms> Inviting sinners home> His voice contains a thousand charms> And every charm says come''. Signed and dated ''Jane Ingham''s Work 1835.''. A good set of motifs, including a large building with gatehouses, possibly Solomon''s temple, flanked by trees, birds, flowers, fruit baskets, fir trees, fruit trees, figures and potted flowering plants. Generally Good. One hole to the left hand edge. Some plucks to the ground in places. Stain at the bottom of the sampler. Very minor stitch loss to a couple of the potted flowering plant motifs. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. Colour run around the verse and signature. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang. 21.5ins by 21.5ins wide
