Circa 1870 Circa 1870 Adam & Eve Sampler. Unframed. The sampler is worked in fine wool on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering strawberry border. Colours red, blues, yellow, greens, light brown, dark brown, pink, gold and purple. No signature or date. A good set of motifs, including diamonds, fir trees, hearts, stars, dogs, birds, flowers, potted flowering plants, crowns, blossoming trees, hearts, fruit baskets, strawberries and Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life, with the initial ''A'' and ''E''. Very Good. No holes. A few pale stain specks, and slight uniform age darkening of the ground. Minor stitch losses to the border and a couple of the motifs. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. 10.5ins by 10ins wide
