Victorian, dated 1846 1846 Sampler by Hannah Elizabeth Jackson. Framed in a modern wood and gilt frame with glass. Loose mounted onto card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in fine wool and silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. Cross linked chain border. Colours green, red, pale blue, black, oranges and pinks. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-26. Verse reads ''Tis religion that can give> Sweetest pleasures while we live,> Tis religion must suply> Solid comfort when we die.> After death its joys will be> Lasting as eternity.> Be the living God my friend,> Then my bliss shall never end.'' Signed and dated ''Hannah Elizabeth Jackson Aged nine years. 1846.''. Single flower motif. Good. No holes. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground. Some stitch losses to letters of the alphabets, numbers and divider lines. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. Very slight colour run around the black verse and signature threads. Unevenly stretched. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 14ins by 12.75ins wide
