Victorian, dated 1839 1839 Sampler by M Weatherhead. Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Tacked to wooden stretcher frame with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Simple embroidered border. Colour black. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-27. Signed and dated ''M. WEATHERHEAD. NOVEMBER. 1839''. Generally good. No holes. A number of patchy stains and stain specks. No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Unevenly stretched. Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung ''as is''. 8.5ins by 11ins wide
