William IV, dated 1835 1835 Woolwork Sampler by Rachel Mauger. Framed in a modern maple frame with glass. Stitched over chipboard backing with brown paper dust cover. The sampler is worked in cotton and wool on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours green, red, yellow, pale blue, pale green, black, pink and light brown. Verse reads ''Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand> On the first efford of Rachel''s hand> And while her fingers on the canvass move> Engage her tender heart to seek thy love> With thy dear children let her have a part> And write thy name thyself upon her heart''. Signed and dated ''Rachel Mauger Aged 9 Years 1835. A good set of motifs, including a stag, flowers, trees and birds. Good. No holes. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground. Some stitch loss to the border and motifs. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Unevenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang. 20.5ins by 18.5ins wide
