William IV, dated 1830 1830 Sampler by Rebecca Schooling. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass. Glued around the extreme edges only to card with card backing and brown paper dust cover. The sampler is worked in fine wool on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering strawberry border. Colours red, yellow, light brown, dark brown, gold, pink, orange, olive green, pale blue and navy blue. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-12. Verse reads ''Great God in Mercy Condescend> Thro life to be my guardian Friend> And when my spirit leaves its clay> To raise it to Etarnal Day''. Signed and dated ''Rebecca Schooling Aged 9 years x830'' (number 1 unstitched). A good set of motifs, including two parrots, a dog, squirrels, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, fir trees, flowers, a swan and a peacock. Fair. A number of holes. No stains. Minor stitch losses to the divider lines, letters of the alphabet, numbers, verse, and signature. Some colours are faded making them difficult to read. No colour run. Unevenly stretched and crumpled. Frame in very good condition. 16ins by 12ins wide
