George IV, dated 1829 1829 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Anger. Framed in a gilt over wood frame with glass. Tacked to a wooden stretcher frame. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours magenta, cream, green, gold, olive green and black. Verse reads ''JESUS permit thy gracious name to stand> As the first effort of my infant hand> And whilst my fingers on the canvas move> Engage my tender thoughts to seek thy love> With thy dear children let me have a part> And write thy name thyself upon my heart''. Signed and dated ''Mary Anger Aged 10 Years 1829''. A good set of motifs, including a castle, birds, dogs, flowers, fir trees, diamonds, stars and potted flowering plants. Good. A few small holes around the edge. Hole in bottom right corner. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground. No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing very slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang. 16.5ins by 12.75ins wide
