George IV, dated 1826 1826 Silkwork School Sampler by Margaret Jack. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering strawberry border. Colours copper, cream, olive green, dark grey and blue. Alphabets in upper case. Verse entitled ''A . Motto'' reads ''Why should we mourn departed> friends or shrink-s in deaths alarms. tis> but the voice that Jesus sends to> call us to his arams.''. Signed and dated ''Done by Margaret Jack in the 9th Year of her age At Miss. E Hendersons School in the Year 1826''. A good set of motifs, including a large house flanked by trees, with a pond at the front and a chapel on a hill to the side, and crowns with family initials. Generally Good. Three holes. Some patchy staining throughout. Minor stitch losses to top line of alphabet, family initials, signature and house roof. Colours are slightly faded. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven.
