George IV, dated 1821 1821 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Ann Mossom. Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Loose mounted over card with wood backing. The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. Meandering floral border. Colours light brown, cream, greens and blues. Alphabets A-Z in lower case and numbers 1-12, also family names and initials. Verse reads ''When I was young I little thought> That Learning was to dearly bought> But now Experience tells me how> If I will learn then I must bow> And theW A willing cheerful Mind> To please my Friends Who are to kind''. Signed and dated ''Mary Ann Mossom Aged 8 in the Year 1821. A good set of motifs, including hearts, dogs, birds, fruit basket, blossoming trees, crowns, diamonds and Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life. Generally Good. Three holes and a couple of pulls to the canvas. A few patchy stains and a stain speck. No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang. 16ins by 16ins wide
