George III, dated 1818 1818 Silkwork Sampler by Ellen Courtney. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours greens, dark brown, gold, black, pink, blues, pale yellow and cream. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10. Verse entitled ''Religion'' reads ''T''will save you from a thousand snares,> To mind Religion young,> Grace will preserve your following years,> And make your virtues strong.''. Signed and dated ''Ellen Courtney October the 13th 1818''. A scattering of motifs, including flowering trees, stars and a cross. Good. A few holes. No stains. No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 12ins by 11ins wide
