George III, dated 1813 1813 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Blake. Framed in an old wood frame with glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. Meandering strawberry border. Colours gold, blue, red, orange, greens and pink. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10. Verses read ''The Lord my pasture shall prepare> And feed me with his shepherds care> He ever will my wants supply> And guard me with his watchful eye''. ''Then let us not indulge despair since we partake our shepherds care> He is our rock and sure defence and none can pluck our soul from then> Come holy dove inspire my soul and all my fear remove> Let all my powers in praises roll and sing redeeming love''. Signed and dated ''Mary Blake 1813 Aged 10 yrs''. A good set of motifs, including a large estate house, windmills, lions, stags, birds, owls, flowers, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, squirrels, fir trees, crowns, Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk and crowned ladies standing in a garden holding a flower. Generally Good. A number of holes. Loss of ground along the bottom edge. A few stains. Some stitch losses to the alphabets, one divider line, verses and a few motifs. Colours are faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 20ins by 16ins wide
