George III, dated 1810 1810 Silkwork Sampler by Jane Rossiter. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering grape vine border. Colours green, cream, red, yellow, dark brown, pink, purple, light green. Verse reads ''Trust God distrust yourself and see> your proper business done> O? v????? Pray contented be> And all Ambition shun> Be swift to hear and slow to speak> Your secrets keep with care> To inferiors kind superiors meek> And with your equals Dear''. Signed and dates ''Jane Rossiters work in her 11th year 1810''. A few motifs, including potted flowering plants, flowers, birds and butterflies. Generally Good. A number of holes. Thinning of the ground along the top edge. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground. Stitch losses to the border, signature, motifs and verse. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 16ins by 13ins wide
