George III, dated 1808 1808 Silkwork Sampler by Jula Goodchild. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours black, cream, greens, pale blue, light brown, dark brown, pink, copper, gold and red. Verses read ''The Saviour who in Glory reigns> Who made the earth and seas> Whose arm unnumbered worlds sustain> Was once a child like me> He stooped so low that I might rise> To dwell with him above> Lord send thy Spirit from the skies> And teach a child thy love.'' Signed and dated ''Jula Goodchild her work in the 10th year of her age Febry 8 1808''. A good set of motifs, including trees, squirrels, owls, birds, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, blossoming trees, flowers, diamonds, hearts, butterflies and crowns. Generally good. A number of holes and losses to the ground. A few stains and uniform age darkening of the ground. Some stitch losses to the border and motifs. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. Colour run around the black threads to the start of the verse. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang. 17ins by 12.5ins wide
