George III, dated 1801 1801 Silkwork Sampler by Margaret Clark. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering strawberry border. Colours cream, pale blue, gold, magenta, pale green and copper. Verses read ''During the Time of Life allotted me, Grant me, good> God my Health and Liberty: I beg no more, if more> Thou''rt pleas''d to give, I''ll thankfully the Overplus> receive.'' ''If you desire to worship God aright, First in the Morn-> ing pray and and last at Night. Crave for his Blessings on> Your Labours all. And in Distress for his Assistance Call''. Signed and dated ''Margaret Clark''s work 1801''. A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants, diamonds, fruit baskets, a deer, British crowns and coronets (Queen, Prince, Duke, Marquess, Earl, Viscount, Lord, Baron and King), fir trees, flowers, a lamb and birds. Generally good. A number of holes. A number of patchy stains. No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Sampler is slightly overframed on the right hand side. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 16.5ins by 12ins wide
