George III, dated 1796 1796 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Jackson. Framed in a old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. Floral border with divider lines in various patterns. Colours gold, copper, light green, cream and purple. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-8. Verse reads ''Sing Ye With Praise Unto The Lord> New Songs With Joy And Mirth> Sing Unto The With One Accord> All People On The Earth''. Signed and dated ''Ann Jackson Rufforth 1796''. Rufforth is a town in North Yorkshire, England. A scattering of motifs, including gentlemen figures, birds, potted flowering plants, fir trees, crosses, hearts, diamonds, beehive, crowns and a lion. Good. A couple of holes. No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground. Minor stitch losses to the border, divider lines, the date, place name, motifs, letters/numbers and the verse. Colours are slightly faded, but the silks remain bright and glossy. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 15.5ins by 18.75ins wide
