George III, dated June 27th 1763 1763 Silkwork Sampler by Catherine Haslam. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye. No border, divider lines in various patterns. Colours magenta, blue, pale blue, gold, burgundy and green. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-16. Inscriptions read'' Hear Counsel> And Receive Instruction That> you May Be Wise in your later> End''. ''Fear God Honour the King''. Signed and dated ''Done by Catherine Haslam June the Twenty seventh 1763''. Fair. Several holes. Some patchy staining - top left quarter different colour than the rest. Discolouration around the edge. No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 11.25ins by 9ins wide
