Amazingly fine workmanship in this wide strip of handmade lace from England, 19th century. This lace with a base of machine made Alencon lace with the appliques added by hand with buttonhole stitches. 3 1/4inches wide. would be over 60inches long if detached from the backing to which it was stapled.
