Jacquard Coverlet, A mid 19th Century hand loomed, red Jacquard Coverlet of cotton and wool, seemless single panel, with central medallion and geometric and floral design in overall excellent condition with no tears, stains, repairs, holes or fading. Even the fringe is in excellent condition, probably Pennsylvania origin, 72" X 86". In the 19th Century, up until the Civil War Americans liked bright colors and bold patterns in their homes. Coverlets of the era were woven on hand looms with Jacquard attachments by professional weavers. They were easier to acquire than entirely hand sewn quilts of unique design. Production was mostly in the Middle Atlantic and Mid-Western states. We have a collection of many coverlets in exceptional original condition. Please inquire.
