Extraordinary guilloche yellow enamel, black enamel, blue enamel, with blue and green Plique A Jour skillfully decorating the top of the box. The side of the box has a diamond shaped maker's mark, looks like FS5, may be French or Austrian. Plique A Jour is associated more with French jewelry and decorative arts more so than Austrian. When you open the box and look up through the top you see a beautiful Plique A Jour design in blue and green. The Plique A Jour design is centered by a diamond shaped guilloche enamel, yellow center. Around the center are blue and green and silver scroll work. Bordering the top is a black and silver enamel border. The bottom has a yellow guilloche enamel underside. This magnificent box is in mint condition. It has its original gold wash at the top and bottom. Boxes like this are usually only seen in museums. This one was a very rare find for us. If you are a collector of high quality boxes, you have found one of the most beautiful and unusual Plique A Jour silver and enamel boxes extant. It measures a little more than 3-1/4 inches long, 2-1/8 inches wide, and 3/8 inch deep. Weight 114.9 grams.
