From British Ceylon, (Sri Lanka) an attractive oval silver box with hinged lid. The shape suggests that it may have been intended as a Betel or Tobacco box. The delicate, foliated design further suggests a Moghul influence. With a well crafted hinge and frosted silver interior it is In very good condition with only slight abrasions from use and age. Size, 2.75" x 3.75". 1870-1890.
